The New York office showed their "green" side on September 27th by helping to beautify NYC. Together with the friends of DAG HAMMARSKJOLD PLAZA PARK, Gateway to the United Nations, they planted fall seasonals in the Katharine Hepburn garden.
Dag Hammarskjold Plaza is a public park located on East 47th Street between First and Second Avenues in the Manhattan neighborhood of Turtle Bay. Envisioned as the “Gateway to the United Nations,” the barren stretch of asphalt provided little more than a staging ground for demonstrators until the mid -1990s when the community, led by the Turtle Bay Association, persuaded city officials to undertake a $4 million reconstruction. As a champion of the park, Friends of Dag Hammarskjold Plaza was founded in 1993, and the park reopened to the public in 1999.
In 1997, the park’s new garden was dedicated to actress Katharine Hepburn, who resided for many years in the Turtle Bay neighborhood and fought to preserve its trees and charming character. Today, with volunteer groups, like MWW Group, the park is preserved and maintained year round for all to enjoy.
