MWW GROUP PROMOTES MARILYN BERRY THOMPSON TO GENERAL MANAGER OF WASHINGTON, D.C. OFFICE
Tim Yehl to Become Senior Counselor; Company Outlines Aggressive D.C. Expansion Plans
WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 16, 2009 - MWW Group (www.mww.com), one of the nation’s top ten public relations firms, announced today that Marilyn Berry Thompson, currently executive vice president for government relations, has been named general manager and executive vice president for the company’s Washington, D.C. operations.
In naming Thompson to this position, MWW Group President and CEO Michael W. Kempner cited her long government relations and Washington experience representing the State of New Jersey and three of its Governors, as well as many of the nation’s colleges and universities, local governments and both corporate and non-profit interests in appropriations, budget, tax, education, technology, infrastructure development and financial services.
“I have known Marilyn for more than 30 years, as a mentor, friend, and for the last year, colleague,” said Kempner. “Marilyn is extraordinary at creating and executing federal government affairs strategies for some of the nation’s most important private and not-for-profit entities. Marilyn is a long-term Washington, D.C. insider, an expert on federal relations, and a real force on Capitol Hill.”
Kempner continued, “We have very aggressive plans for our Washington, D.C. office. With the new Obama administration, we will see an activist government once again, one that works to aggressively solve the problems of the American people. This increase in activity represents opportunity for organizations and companies to participate in important government programs. As a result we will be increasing our government relations and public affairs staff at all levels in the coming months. This is an exciting and promising time for our nation, and MWW Group is strongly supportive of many of the new ideas and ideals of this administration, and we look forward to being an active participant in the process.”
Current General Manager Timothy J. Yehl is remaining with the firm in a part time capacity, changing his role to senior counselor to MWW Group. In addition, Yehl will form a new company, Tim Yehl LLC, to work on entrepreneurial ventures. Yehl previously held the general manager and executive vice president title, following his service on Capitol Hill as chief of staff to both Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee Chairman, Representative Frank Pallone (D-NJ). Tim Yehl has played and will continue to play a valuable role for MWW Group, working as a senior-most strategic consultant. Working together, Yehl and Thompson have taken MWW Group’s Washington, D.C. office to new heights.
MWW Group’s Washington, D.C. office operations have already more than doubled over the last year, following its merger with Thompson’s government relations team, many of whom have well over a decade of experience both on Capitol Hill with and the Executive Branch. MWW Group’s government relations practice now has a presence in more than thirty states across the nation.
